Why Choose Comedy?

I have to tell you a secret. I love comedy. I love performing comedy, I love watching comedy, and I love producing comedy. It is a passion for me and my family. The kids even get involved having their own comedy shows, albeit the jokes usually start with "knock knock" and end with something childish such as "fart".

In the world today, their are many entertainment sources to pay for. We have movies, live music, interpretive dance, and then we have comedy. So what makes an individual choose comedy over their other options? All entertainment has value, but comedy takes it one step further. In a night of comedy, hot topic items may be presented that make you laugh but also challenge contemporary beliefs. In the same night you may hear a joke that makes you go "oh that is so true", hear a joke that makes you go "that is so gross", and hear a joke that just makes you laugh. And laughter, it just soothes the soul.

Going to a comedy club and watching a headliner can also make you feel like part of something. The comedian is often revealing parts of their lives, their thoughts and beliefs, and the audience goes with them. The comedian will take time to engage the audience, and often it is like the room has experienced something together and have their own little secret. The comedian may do a recall from a previous bit and the audience is there with their shared knowledge, and can think "oh that (insert comedian's name here)". At the end of the night, the goal is for everyone to be relaxed, have had a good evening of entertainment, and want to come again. I have watched various comedians repeatedly, and each time they bring something just a little different. There are comedians I could watch over and over again.

Then there is one element of comedy that I secretly like, but shh, don't tell anyone. I like bad comedy. I will admit it as someone who has performed some bad comedy in her time. I enjoy watching someone struggle on stage, only because I like to cheer for the underdog. I like to watch their discomfort turn into a challenge, and hopefully turn into success. Sometimes watching a good comedy bomb is as good as watching a great show. I love it because it is live, it is raw, and it is REAL

So please consider hitting the local comedy clubs and seeing more live comedy. I also encourage you to purchase tickets for CHICKLES www.jh-5.com to see an AMAZING comedy show featuring some of the top comedians in Canada, who also happen to be women. The tickets are selling fast, and I don't want you to miss out! (yes, I will put a plug in all my blogs)

See you at the clubs!
