Comedy Recap March 31, 2011 Mark Forward, JY Harris & Trevor Thompson

The day before April fool's seems like a good time to get some laughs.  Thursday evening at Yuk-Yuk's Elgin St. location is a good place to get them.  The comedy club is packed tonight, there are several large groups, and it is 1/2 price student night ($7 with valid student ID).  Fun is in the air before the comics come out, and the young crowd seems like they are ready to be entertained.

Our MC for the evening's festivities is none other than one of JH5's Top Ten Favourite males, local funnyman Trevor Thompson.  What can be said about Thompson that hasn't already been said here.  Thompson quickly grabbed the attention of the audience and held it throughout.  He warms them up well, people received their money's worth in the first ten minutes of this show!  As usual Thompson is a crowd pleaser, and doesn't miss a beat.

Up next was Vancouver ginger kid Jy Harris.  Harris immediately dives head first into what can be described as a manic routine.  His comedy moves fast, and while at times the audience feels they may develop motion sickness trying to keep up, his jokes are sharp, clever and very well delivered.  This was JH5's first chance to watch Harris, and no doubt we will look for him again.

It will take a strong comic to keep the momentum going after Thompson's great hosting work, and the high energy frenzy brought by Harris.  Mark Forward does just that!  In the aforementioned top ten list of which  included Thompson, Forward was JH5's pick for favourite male comic.  Given this, the expectations IS high for him to deliver!  In stark contrast to Harris' manic presents, Forward quietly takes the stage and nearly whispers "I'm really good".  Forward has an "out there" style combining bizarre absurdist subjects such as anthropomorphic woodland creatures and weird observations.   He delivers a strong performance. Much of Forwards act seems to be for his own amusement, and we are just along for the ride. He spends a considerable amount of stage time ribbing, nearly provoking select audience members (hecklers) who have caught his attention.

While JH5 has given out many WHAT TO WATCH, we raise the ante with this show and rate it WHAT YOU MUST WATCH.  If you want to get the best value for your dollar, this is the venue and place to do it!  RESERVE NOW (613) 236-LAFF.
